Canyon has designed many types of ski and snowboard programs to fit children’s needs. For four and five year olds check out our Kinder Ski Programs or try our Junior Ski Programs for children six to twelve years of age. All lessons should be booked in advance.

Kinder Learn to Ski (4 & 5 years):

Kinder Learn to Ski lets the instructor meet with the parents and be introduced to the child before the lesson begins. We watch for the child’s assurance each day, show each child how to be mobile on skis, and how to have fun at this winter sport. The program is one hour long each day and progresses the child for skiing independently on our handle tow run.

Junior Learn to Ski is designed to create the best possible learning environment. Children will learn to ski with the gentle, expert guidance of our enthusiastic instructors. The goals of this package are to turn out skiers capable of riding our T-bar and skiing at a low intermediate level.

• Cost: Area Passes & Lessons: $160.00
• Rentals Additional: $80.00
• Lessons ONLY: $80.00 (season pass holder)

Kinder Ski Improvement (4 & 5 years):

Kinder Ski Improvement is for all young skiers, who are able to ski independently on the handle tow. The outcome of this program is to turn out skiers that are able to ride the T-bar and make well balanced turns on low intermediate slopes.

Junior Ski Improvement (6 - 12 years):

Junior Ski is for the more seasonal skier who is skiing the beginner and intermediate runs. The program will include two (2) hours of adventure on the slopes with a half hour lunch break (purchase in the cafeteria or bag lunch) with the instructor. The outcome of this program is to develop shorter round turns on blue and easy black runs.

• Four full day area passes
• Four two hour lessons > Lesson Times are from 11:30am - 2:00pm
• Cost: Area Passes & Lessons: $220.00
• Rentals Additional: $80.00
• Lessons Only: $160.00 (Season Pass Holder)

This two day program is designed to create a positive learning environment for the sport of snowboarding. Lessons are one and a half hours in length from 10:30am to 12:00pm (noon) and the cost of the program includes a full day (9:00am to 5:00pm) all area pass. At the end of this program the boarder should have basic knowledge such as turning, stopping as well as riding the handle tow and T-bar lifts.

• 13 - 16 years: $110.00

• Maximum 6 per class

Canyon Ski Area offers groups of twenty (20) people or more a special discounted rate. All your group needs to do is call our office (403-346-5589) to book your date and time. You must pre-book to get the discounted group rate.

A complimentary lesson is included with our group discounted rate; however we need to have a minimum of five (5) people for each lesson and children must be older than 6 years.

Canyon Ski Area’s school and group programs are designed to incorporate and emphasize snow safety and the importance of outdoor recreational activities as a part of a healthy balanced life. We feel that every child and adult should have an opportunity to participate in skiing and snowboarding. To help facilitate this, Canyon makes every effort to offer a cost effective group package (lift, lesson, and rental). Our group programs are for individual’s aged 6 years and older.

Skiing and snowboarding fits into the Alberta School Curriculum for Physical Education under the General Outcomes of activity, health benefits, cooperation, and daily activity. Our lesson programs place special emphasis on safety. Our instructional programs have been designed with curriculums in mind, and can be easily linked with mathematics, social studies, science, language learning, and health components. In addition, Canyon offers lesson plans and would be pleased to help aid in organizing, planning, and creating an educational and enjoyable trip to our area.
